Sanskrit subhashitas survive in many recensions, commentaries and regional traditions, and the same verse can carry different wording and different scope depending on the edition followed. Devanagari text on this site is reproduced from the source material held for the archive. Word-by-word glosses, English renderings and the surrounding explanation are editorial work: they are aids to reading, not substitutes for a critical edition or a qualified teacher. Where a rendering is contested, treat it as one reading among several.
Accuracy And Limits Of The Archive
The archive is compiled and reviewed with care, but it is not a critical edition and it is not exhaustive. Some entries carry incomplete or unverified glosses, and some are undergoing editorial correction. A small number of automated entries are still awaiting human review. Nothing here is guaranteed complete, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose. If an error matters to you, verify against a primary text before relying on it.
