देववाणी

Collection of Sanskrit Shlokas, Stotrams, Pranam Mantras & Stutis

What Is Devavani?

Devavani (देववाणी, "speech of the gods") is a celebrated name for the Sanskrit language. This collection brings together the most widely recited Sanskrit devotional verses — shlokas, stotram-s, pranam mantras and stutis — addressed to Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Durga, Rama, Krishna and Hanuman. Each verse is shown in Devanagari with a simple IAST transliteration and an English meaning, so that someone new to Sanskrit can speak the words correctly and understand what they are saying.

How to Use This Page

Use the search box to find a verse by deity, title or keyword, and use the filter buttons to show only shlokas (verses), stotra-s (longer hymns of praise), pranam mantras (greetings) or stuti-s (short praises). Every card opens into a larger view with the full Sanskrit text, transliteration, an English meaning and, where available, the source such as the Vishnu Sahasranama, Skanda Purana or the Mahabharata.

Why These Verses Matter

Prayers such as the Vakratunda Mahakaya before studies, the Vishwatma Saraswati, or the evening chants to Lakshmi are used in Indian homes during festivals, worship and morning and evening routines. Understanding the meaning behind them turns mechanical recitation into a personal, reflective practice. This page is offered strictly as an educational and cultural resource; it is not a substitute for guidance from a qualified priest or teacher, and meaning interpretations are given in a simple, explanatory form.

The verses in the Devavani collection are preserved here exactly as they appear in traditional sources, with transliteration only as a learning aid. Readers are encouraged to verify the verses with their family teacher or temple authorities before formal recitation practice.
