प्रथमं नार्जिता विद्या द्वितीये नार्जितं धनम्। तृतीये नार्जितं पुण्यं चतुर्थे किं करिष्यति॥

जीवन के पहले भाग (ब्रह्मचर्य/बचपन) में यदि विद्या प्राप्त नहीं की, दूसरे भाग (युवावस्था) में यदि धन नहीं कमाया, और तीसरे भाग में यदि पुण्य नहीं कमाया, तो व्यक्ति चौथे भाग (बुढ़ापे) में क्या करेगा?

मानवेन निजजीवनस्य प्रथमे भागे ज्ञानं प्राप्तव्यम्, द्वितीये धनार्जनं कर्तव्यम्, तृतीये च धर्मसञ्चयः करणीयः। यदि एतत् सर्वं न कृतम्, तर्हि चतुर्थे आश्रमे (वृद्धावस्थायां) सः असहायः भूत्वा किमपि कर्तुं न शक्ष्यति।
