अधमा धनमिच्छन्ति धनं मानं च मध्यमाः। उत्तमा मानमिच्छन्ति मानो हि महतां धनम्॥

অধম বা নিচ প্রকৃতির মানুষেরা কেবল ধনসম্পদ চায়; মধ্যম প্রকৃতির মানুষেরা ধন এবং মান (সম্মান) উভয়ই চায়। কিন্তু উত্তম প্রকৃতির মানুষেরা কেবল সম্মানই কামনা করেন, কারণ মহৎ ব্যক্তিদের কাছে সম্মানই হলো শ্রেষ্ঠ ধন।

निम्न कोटि के लोग केवल धन की इच्छा करते हैं; मध्यम कोटि के लोग धन और सम्मान दोनों चाहते हैं। परन्तु उत्तम कोटि के लोग केवल सम्मान चाहते हैं, क्योंकि महापुरुषों के लिए सम्मान ही सबसे बड़ा धन है।

संसारे त्रिविधाः जनाः भवन्ति। नीचजनाः केवलं धनं वाञ्छन्ति, मध्यमजनाः धनं सम्मानं च वाञ्छन्ति। परन्तु ये श्रेष्ठाः सन्ति ते केवलं सम्मानम् इच्छन्ति, यतो हि तेषां कृते मानः एव सर्वस्वम् अस्ति।
