मृदुना दारुणं हन्ति मृदुना हन्त्यदारुणम्। नासाध्यं मृदुना किञ्चित् तस्मात् तीव्रतरं मृदु॥

Mildness (soft diplomacy) can conquer the harshest of enemies, and mildness can conquer the mild as well. There is absolutely nothing that cannot be achieved through mildness. Therefore, mildness is actually sharper and more powerful than harshness.

মৃদুতা বা কোমলতার দ্বারা অত্যন্ত রূঢ় ব্যক্তিকেও জয় করা যায়, আবার কোমল ব্যক্তিকেও জয় করা যায়। পৃথিবীতে এমন কিছু নেই যা মৃদুতা বা ভদ্র ব্যবহারের দ্বারা সাধ্য হয় না। তাই কঠোরতার চেয়ে মৃদুতা অনেক বেশি তীক্ষ্ণ ও শক্তিশালী।

कोमलता (या नम्रता) से कठोर से कठोर शत्रु को भी जीता जा सकता है, और कोमलता से कोमल व्यक्ति को भी जीता जा सकता है। कोमलता (मधुर व्यवहार) से कुछ भी असंभव नहीं है। इसलिए कोमलता (या कूटनीति) कठोरता से भी अधिक तेज़ और असरदार है।

मानवः नम्रव्यवहारेण (मृदुतया) कठोरं शत्रुमपि जेतुं शक्नोति, शान्तं जनम् अपि। संसारे मृदुभावेन किमपि कार्यम् असम्भवं न भवति। अतः नीतिशास्त्रे मृदुता एव कठोरतायाः अपेक्षया अधिकतीक्ष्णा बलवती च मन्यते।
